Some of the fees you could expect.

1.  Student Amenities Fees.  All fee paying and CSP students will be expected to pay these.  They help fund the non-accademic services that the university offers.  They will vary between universities.

2.  CSP Fees.  These are the fees that you will pay for the course you are doing.  Once again these will vary between courses however you will not be required to pay these back to the government until you reach a designated wage limit.  You can pay them up front at a discounted rate.

3.  Student Union Fees.  A fee to the student union that helps fund the functions that the student union organises for the students at the university.  These will vary between universities.

4.  Additional course fees for excursions and/or trips.  These will generally be paid for at the time of the excursion or trip and will vary from excursion to excursion or trip to trip.

5.  Living expenses.   These will include things like rent, food, petrol etc.

6.  Books and other requirements for courses.  These will be on the book list and will vary with course that you choose.  Second hand books may be available and will be a lot cheaper.

Assistance with Expenses

1.  Scholarships.  Each university will have scholarships and will usually have information session during O Week.  There are also scholarships that are on offer through private organisations.  Some of these may be applied for during the end of the previous year.

2.  Fee-help.  Citizens of Australia are able to apply for a loan to help with the costs of education.  At the moment they are available with a one off interest rate.   Payments will not need to be met until a minimum income is reached.  See the tax office web site for details.

3.  Youth Allowance.  an allowance given to low income families.  Click here for details.
